I have had a lot of people ask me about our business name and how I came up with it, when in reality it came up with us. As you may know from previous posts, we have our own beehive in our back garden, and I am an active beekeeper. Bees are such amazing creatures, they work non stop storing away honey and we really are so lucky to be able to collect and use some of it. Our friends, family and neighbours have been the lucky benefactors of some of this liquid gold as well, and we often heard our little home being referred to as the honey house or the bee house. I knew I wanted to use the beautiful raw natural honey from my beehive in my products, so I also wanted to try to incorporate my bees and honey into my business name and logo. The actual fact that the meaning of my name in Greek is honeybee made it seem like a no brainer, but it wasn’t the first name that I came up with, but it was the only name that I kept coming back to, and in hindsight I don’t know why I agonised over it for so long.
Starting a business is such an amazing journey of learning and adapting and growing. I can honestly say that it has been one of the most amazing things that I have ventured into in my lifetime. Having said that, I can also say that it has been one of the scariest, most difficult things as well, I‘m sure that all the small business owners out there who have gone down this path know exactly what I mean. But every time I set to a task for the business it rarely feels like work, and I realise that if you are truly passionate and have total belief in what you are trying to achieve, then it rarely does.
We have lived our lives devoted to the beach and ocean and it is integral to our health and happiness, it is like an addictive drug and I have a saying “my daily dose of the ocean” and if I don’t get it my day is never quite right. Our oceans and Mother Earth are sick and we want to help wherever we can, this is where my passion and my motivation in starting my sustainable business stems from. The integrity of my products are very important to me, and I will never choose the easy way or the cheap way, it just means that I have to wait a little longer and work a little harder before I can introduce that new product. We have set a very high ethic for our business, but it is what we see as morally and environmentally right, you will not see anything but 100% natural, sustainable and ethical ingredients or packaging attached to our products.
I hope that you have enjoyed learning a little more behind the name of our business and the drive that urges us down our path to continue to live sustainably.
