Do you know that old saying “ Beauty is only skin deep, that true beauty comes from within”, this is so true in more ways then just metaphorically, it is also true spiritually, and physically. Here is another saying for you “You are what you eat” these two age old adages are what come to mind when I start thinking about what I want to talk to you about today.
I have had many Mums come and ask me recently for advice, and what would I suggest for their pre-teen and teenage children’s skin. Most of them are suffering from acne, but a good deal of them have differing skin conditions as well. It has really opened my eyes to just how many people suffer problems with their skin form a young age. My immediate response is to ask them what products they use on their skin, and if they are natural? A lot of the time they are being advised to buy and use products that are not natural, but will often carry warning labels on them. These products often come with a complicated and time consuming application routine, and many of them are costing well in to the $100 range.
Dare I use the P word, puberty, comes with an array of difficulties and trying times for kids and parents alike. Hormones are going wild inside their young bodies and this does have an adverse effect on their skin, to a certain extent you just have to ride it out and there is nothing you can do. It is my belief that keeping things simple is best and of course natural products are my recommendation always. However, I am a big believer in diet and nutrition as well, and the health of the gut is a defining measure on the health of the skin and hair.
During my years of suffering from chronic ulcerative colitis and being told to take a concoction of pills and tablets, I came to the conclusion that my ultimate health was in my own hands and that I needed to be proactive if I wanted to get well and ditch the medication. I stripped my diet basically down to the bare minimum, and often went to great lengths to find the information and ingredients I needed to make the meals that would ultimately heal my body. But the amazing thing that happened throughout this process was that the problems I had experienced with my skin were all clearing or gone. I am really pleased to say that in recent years, it has become a lot easier to find the right advice and to source ingredients and recipes.
I am super excited to announce that I am am teaming up with a beautiful and very knowledgeable lady, let me introduce you to my amazing friend Kylie Dowling, founder and owner of Nutrition Inside Out.
